What is AIS 140?
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, mandating the installation of vehicle location tracking device and emergency button in all public service vehicles.

AIS 140 Mandate
All passenger transport vehicles must be equipped with a Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) device and Emergency Button.
Flexible Installation
Approved devices can be installed or retrofitted by manufacturers, dealers, permit holders, or system integrators in any vehicle model.
Unique Device Identification
Each device must have a unique ID (VIN or IMEI) along with an embedded SIM for communication.
Vehicle Mapping
Device ID is mapped with vehicle registration number, engine number, chassis number, vehicle make & model, device details, and telecom provider.
Emergency Alert System
Passenger and driver emergency buttons send alerts to the authorized government backend server (NERS). Deactivation can only be done from the government server.
